Transition (e.g. entry, phase movement and exit) rituals promote residents’ sense of belonging, confer progressive status and increasing opportunities within the recovery living environment and community.

This rule applies to all levels.

Guidance

Milestone rituals and activities can range from celebrating recovery anniversaries and “belly button” birthdays to welcome new residents to support residents when someone moves out to honoring residents who move up a phase, a practice that rewards residents with more responsibilities and privileges as they advance in their recovery.

Evaluation

Are there rituals in place that affirm, acknowledge or celebrate milestones?

Evidence

Evidence that demonstrates this rule is uphold should be documented in the leadership model and in the accreditation interview.
