Guidance

The recovery residence should have one or more roles that are responsible for facilitating access to local community-based resources. In practice, this often looks like conducting community asset-based mapping on a periodic basis to identify the local resources, publishing those findings in a resource binder or in an online platform and linking residents to those resources. Some recovery residences may even recruit residents to participate in the resource mapping as part of a participatory process. Making the resource directory available to residents can be helpful, but staff can take a more active role by providing “warm handoffs”.  From a social model perspective, staff should empower residents as opposed to making choices and appointments for them.

Evaluation

  • Does the recovery residence have role descriptions that require one or more staff roles to facilitate access to local community-based resources?
