Guidance
For those with lived experience in recovery and in recovery residences, this rule may seem so implicit that it would not be needed. However, more and more individuals are opening recovery homes that do not have lived experience and/or that do not value or understand social model recovery philosophy. Within the social model, mutual aid amongst the residents and other peers is the foundation of recovery support. This rule further points to a resident’s sense of responsibility for their own recovery and to support the recovery of others in the community. Recovery residence researchers have begun to measure the sense of responsibility and connection that one resident has with another resident as well as the degree to which each resident’s sense of responsibility and connection with the entire household.
