Rule

Documentation of a process that requires a written agreement prior to committing to terms that includes the following:

  • Resident rights
  • Financial obligations, responsible parties and refund policy
  • Restrictions and commitments
  • Services provided
  • Recovery definition and goals
  • Relapse policies and advance directive
  • Policies regarding removal of personal property left in the residence

 This standard rule applies to all recovery residence levels of support.

 

Guidance

Before an individual agrees to any terms, they must go through an orientation. Some recovery residences utilize a written checklist, where residents initial next to the various terms documenting that they have read and understand them. A growing number of technology platforms allow this to be done electronically. Regardless, providers must have a way of ensuring individuals an adequate oriented prior to agreeing to terms.

 

Evaluation

  • Is there a process for orienting individuals prior to committing to terms?

  • Does this process require a written agreement that lists at a minimum the following terms: resident rights and requirements, financial obligations and responsible parities, services provided, recovery definition and goals, relapse policies and policies regarding removal of personal property left in the residence?
